ASOAGROAMBIENTE was created in 2017 by a family looking for new commercial channels for their coffee. The name of this coffee growing association comes from the grower’s love of the environment (Ambiente). The association has since grown and in January of this year obtained a Fair Trade seal. They place huge importance on responsible practices of cultivation, processing, and the commercialization of their coffee. This coffee is grown in the municipality of Dolores in the southwest of Tolima (at 1,500 – 1,900 meters), an area where the first settlers, the Ambicaes Indians inhabited. Current generations of Ambicaes Indians inherited a love of the land, agriculture, countryside, and family.
One of the most important projects the association is involved with is organizing a community radio station, which until now didn’t exist. The objective of the radio station is to broadcast educational information, communication, cultural promotion, training, and to inspire conversation among the community.
